Yisook is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She was born in Seoul, South Korea and came to the United States in 1983. She completed her Master’s degree from the Columbia University School of Social Work in 1989. She worked throughout New York City in Manhattan, Harlem, and Brooklyn until she had her first child. After moving to New Jersey and raising two children, she resumed working as an individual, couples, and family therapist in private practices.
In 2015, she moved to San Diego with her husband. Yisook co-founded Elim Counseling Center for Family and Community here and has remained a part of the team as a clinical supervisor and staff therapist. Yisook is committed to promoting mental health awareness by leading virtual and in-person workshops. Additionally, she welcomes the opportunity to supervise graduate students and pre- licensed interns. Yisook’s clinical experience and her bilingual identity encourages and empowers clients and trainees alike. As a therapist,
her approach is tailored to the unique individuality of each client, drawing from over 20 years of professional experience. She is passionate about supporting clients through their mental health journeys, helping them
build self-worth while balancing work, relationships, and life.
Yisook specializes in helping couples and families reconnect and restore their love for each other. She has
had many uplifting and meaningful experiences helping families resolve conflicts rooted in communication, challenges with immigration, and intergenerational differences in multicultural families.
In her spare time, Yisook enjoys playing golf and hiking the small mountains and hills of beautiful San Diego.
She enjoys reading biographies and fiction and facilitates a monthly contemporary Asian American Literature Club. Yisook loves her community and continues to give back by volunteering at local relief organizations,
food banks, and her faith community.
